My name is Jon Garber and I was born in Ft. Meyers, FL. I moved to Helen, GA in 1971. In 1975, I moved back to St. Augustine, FL where I attended a self supporting private school in Dayton, Tennessee. I paid my way through school working in the green houses, canning and and dairy farming. After graduation I moved back to St. Augustine and worked at the family wholesale nursery. My favorite hobbies were grafting cutrus trees and landscaping.
As an adult I owned my own landscaping, lawn-maintnence and nursery business for about 10 years before moving to North Georgia. I am a truck driver by trade now and living in the Georgia foothills in Jasper, GA. For the last five years, I have continuosly spent my free time working with my wood lathe, turning exquisite salad bowls, custom pens and many more wood creations. What started off as a part-time hobby has turned into something more than occasional gifts for friends and family members. I couldn't be happier than doing something I truly love.
After beginning this as a simple hobby, turning pens and experimenting with various projects, I noticed that I really enjoyed what I was doing. My family and friends truly loved my gift items and started requesting me to make them something else altogether. Before long I was making letter openers, wine bottle stoppers, key-chains, cheese & bread boards, cutting boards, cutlery and salad bowls. I began to analyze the many differnet native and exotic wood species. I gained a whole new aspect for wood working. I later decided, to further inquire the many diverse faux options for pens, letter openers and key-chains. These too were a hit with family and friends. I have also sold my products, to local shops throughout the North Georgia area. After renting and setting up booths become a real drag, I determined it was time to get a website. I have several loyal customers that still purchase my wood creations. Now I am going to see how a bigger audience perceives my artwork.
